What is Iyengar yoga?

B.K.S. Iyengar is the founder and namesake of Iyengar Yoga. This system of yoga is heavily based on precise alignment of the body, efficiency of movement and integration of body awareness and concentration. These attributes are taught through postures (asanas). As the student builds strength, learns balance and gains flexibility, a feeling of well-being and quietness comes to the practitioner. Iyengar yoga is often referred to as "Meditation In Action."

The use of props - chairs, blankets, blocks and the wall are used to help give each student the full experience and sensation of a posture (asana). Generally speaking, props are the reason every body, regardless of age, flexibility and ability can practice yoga. Learn more about Iyengar Yoga.
